The Billionaire Hotel Scion at the Center of the Fight Over Harvard

Penny Pritzker was at Harvard when tensions rose between the university and Trump over federal funding. The conflict escalated to a lawsuit, with Harvard defending its academic independence. Pritzker’s family has a history of disputes with Trump, dating back to the 1990s. Despite personal losses and pressure, she built a successful career and aims to make a positive impact.

Penny Pritzker, the heir of Hyatt and an important board member of Harvard, was at Harvard for an alumni event when she heard that President Trump and the university were fighting over federal fundings, which cost over a billion dollars. With the rising tensions between Harvard and the government, Penny was annoyed at the government. The fight was impacting the country, with Harvard standing as a top university, as the White House threatened Harvard from enrolling international students. Moreover, the issue has gone to lawsuit, where Harvard sued the government for violating the school's constitutional rights and academic independence.

The fight between Pritzker’s family and Trump has been since the 1990s, when Penny’s uncle fought with Trump over a Manhattan real-estate. While there has been pressure on Penny Pritzker, who is facing this crise in her family and personal life, she has already faced this pressure before. With her dad dying at 13 from playing tennis in Hawaii and her mom dying at 23 drunk driving, Penny has accomplished in developing a Chicago skyscraper, founding several companies, and serving as a “chairwomen for a credit-reporting business.” Vivian Riefburg, Harvard graduate and friend of Pritzker, said that Pritzker is not a politician, but one who wants to make an impact.
